British and Irish Lions legend Ian McGeechan has been knighted in the 2010 New Year Honours List for his services to rugby union.
McGeechan featured in seven British and Irish Lions tours, including five as a coach and two as a player.
The 63-year-old's knighthood comes after a distinguished playing and coaching career which began in international terms with a Scotland debut in 1972.
He became Scotland coach in 1988 and led them to a Grand Slam and Five Nations title in 1990, but he is best known for his association with the Lions.
He came out on top in tours of South Africa as a player in 1974 and as a coach in 1997, while also securing a victory in Australia as a coach in 1989.
He also played on the 1977 tour and coached the 1993 side and the 2005 midweek side on two tours of New Zealand which ended in Test series defeat.
Most recently he coached the team which came up just short in South Africa this year and has hinted at being involved in some way for the 2013 tour of Australia.
Meanwhile, England's Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula One champion, has been awarded the MBE, while Ross Brawn, who led the Brawn GP team for which Button raced, has been honoured with an OBE.
Button's MBE completes an incredible year for the 29-year-old.
He won six of the first seven grands prix of 2009 to establish a strong lead in the drivers' championship before sealing the title in Brazil in October.
